GDesk Tips and Tricks

This page is for your tips and tricks with using GDesk.

General

  • a menu. Since Version 0.14 (maybe earlier?) you can assign a key to that page menu and configure it to be a cross-page-key and you will have access to that menu from any page!
  • To set the order of the jog dial, you have to use the z and c keys - c goes up and z goes down. To toggle the on and off (red or blue) state of the icon use the x key.
    • (Note for users with a different keyboard layout, e.g. QWERTZ-German-Layout: use y/x/c keys for down/on,off/up)
    • The ! icon represents something (application or plug-in) that isn't installed on your phone. It should really have been a ? but ! was easier to create :) In design mode you can tap it and 'Replace with app' or 'Replace with other' to put something useful in its place
    • Since the icons for 'phone' and 'call log' applications are similar (as well as vital), you can stack them up on each other. Set one of them to be toggled off for selection via the jog dial, and assign a keypad shortcut for both.
    • To create a non-functional icon (i.e. an icon that doesn't do anything - useful for tabbed-style pages),
      1. create a new page
      2. add page link button for the page on a different page
      3. set icon to this button
      4. delete the page you just created
Now you have an icon that doesn't perform any function!
(alternatively: create a page menu for an empty page)

    • Workaround for not having access to ScreenLock functionality by "Back"-Key:
      • Put Icon for ClockSS (or any other favorized ScreenSaver/-Locker application) on GDesk Desktop, assign your favourite key to it and have easy access to screen lock.
    • Pressing the "Shift" Button (for uppercase) brings up the main menu of GDesk. Works on P1i also. (Does this work on other models as well?)

    P1i

    • An excellent method is to click on the left side arrow on the top status bar. And Voila! There you can access the keylock function, you can even lock while using the music player or .sis applications (by ch lee).
    • Another way of (relatively) quickly locking the screen without extra screen savers is to assign "*" to the phone icon, then, simply press * twice (**) then soft key lock.

    • I use autolock (systemconfig/security/lock/autolock) as a workaround for the missing "backbutton" keylock.

***on my phone (W950i with "replace main" set) if you press "0" once. It will take you back to the original menu. and from there press and hold
the "lock" key. It will lock your phone like normal then send you back to your gdesk main screen automatically! (works with silent too)

Congratulations for the excellent program, well I do have one doubts, did I catch some themes here, but when will I put some programs in the place of the old ones, the icon that comes in the theme disappears, and is the icon of the program that I put, has how just to put the program, but to leave the icon that was already in the theme?

Hi, I really like GDesk. What I don't like is an image behind all the icons so I don't create an image in 'Set Desktop'. What I realy like though is an image on page 1. To do this you have to create a 'page link' (assign it to a new page) and set icon to an image 240x301 and place it nicely to cover the whole page. You have to do this first and before you create anything else on the page so the image is under the icons and items.
I hope this helps and make your GDesk more enjoyable as it did mine.
    Regards MC.
