It will be amazing if we can change background image for every page

May I request that all people editing this page try to keep the formatting and do not mess around with colors too much? I find it a bit confusing and difficult to read with so much mess around (naytsyrhc).

May I request not to post comments that are not meaningfull? Comments like e.g. "Keep Dreaming lol" do not get us any further // stollo


General Requests


• animation on logo's like TWUIK samples
  • can you make possile to put an animated gif like background ...and to play the animation in loop
  • Operator name hides when running GDesk.its better to ad Operator feature for infoview which user can show operator name anywere in display.
  • 100% wallpaper cover in LANDSCAPE view. In 320x240 pixels of course.
  • Keylock feature as it is in standby application (long press of backbutton) or with a special action
  • Replace standby application at all as mentioned further
  • W950 with v0.24 - Battery indicator - in Gdesk Infoview, is it possible to be able to use a meter (like the original battery meter) rather than a number percentage, it's easier to read
  • W950 with v0.24 - is it possible to add an application for phone lock, that way we can lock the phone from gdesk by applying it to a key (at the moment i'm having to press return to go to the main screen and then locking it the normal way)
  • Gdesk Autostart - option who set Gdesk to start with the phone (when you restart your phone GDesk will start automatic).
  • Gdesk Scribbler - allow for marking the notepad off in sections (drawing a 'line' under entries. This divides the page up into separate notes which can hopefully be saved under filenames or bookmarks.
  • While in design mode, display the shortcut key assigned to each icon...perhaps in that tiny square that appears on the bottom right.
  • Display bell on screen, if alarm clock is set.
  • Display application names as tool-tips.
  • Timer option in background settings for random changing background images from a selected folder. Could also work with icons.Then it would be possible to have a slide show running in a large icon frame on the first page.
  • Suggestion for designs: What about the idea of rotaing all the icons by 90 degrees and creating a design that works in landscape mode ? By repeating some of the icons on each screen left and right (up and down in usal terms), with a background which was taken slightly adjuested it could give the impression of a full scrolling display. What do you think? (This is a comment related to Design ideas , rather than a request to change the existing functionality of the Gdesk) GDesk does actually work in landscape mode properly, I just need to produce an interface to switch modes. Gary.
    I think that UI-orientation (portrait vs landscape) should be an option you can specify per page; you would design pages differently in many ways if the page is meant to be displayed in landscape-mode. --Tim van der Leeuw
  • Option to disable main menu when clicking empty area. Or option to define specific area / icon for main menu to avoid unnessessary opening of menu. Or better yet, replace the main menu tap with small GDesk logo. Even better: open main menu the same way as configured for the plugins! Either by flick or by click. Give a nice consistent touch ;-)
  • If you call a page using an Icon on another page, make it so that it goes back to the calling page when you press the back button.
  • Add the option "Align to grid" for a single item, not just to realign everything. You can select "Use grid" and align the item you wish manually. This will preserve the locations of any other items on the page.
  • If the background can be set to transparent, we still can use our theme. If you extract the theme file with ZIP (rename UTZ to ZIP) then use the wallpaper picture in GDesk, then there is no need for this./Klp65 - Not if transparent background could reduce GDesk memory footprint /PsychoWood - But a transparent background can help seeing the operator name and channel info.
  • Add to ability to voice dial from Gdesk. When I hold down the scroll wheel nothing happens.
  • Option to view status brand (like o2,orange,t-mobile etc) and possibility to view information local channels (like channel 050 - info about current position)
  • Lock screen slider (Like on the iphone or just a simple lock icon) (maybe a port of Iphonelock that already exists in java? ) You can use any search engine to find the program (named ilock in SIS file - for UIQ3 and JAR file), works well on my M600i. //novan
  • Link to the today panel
  • Scrollable pages to make contact page etc
  • Ringtone on/off button
  • Ability to quickly mute phone (ideally with a long press of the # key as on the Main screen)
  • Link to document opening the document in the appropriate application
  • Link to URL opening the URL in the (selectable?) browser

  • Next to the x there should be an arrow softwey thet brings up the menu (rather than tapping in any black space)
  • Option for Gdesk to replace the standby screen completely rather than run over the top of it.
  • Link to GSM/3G mobile network choice or, if not possible, link to mobile networks. Show/choose GSM Provider plugin on gdesk (not possible to see which network is connected)It is possible to create an Icon to Control Panel ->Mobile Network by going to Gdesk menu in design view->Add other ->Control Panel->Mobile Network.   • Ability to install in Flip-Open mode only (or option to disable Flip-Closed mode)
  • Ability to assign, at least in FC mode, shortcuts with both short and long keypad press (i.e. to have 8 apps mapped to the pad)
  • Open contacts by holding a specific key down, as it works when not running GDesk.
  • Change standard title "gdesk v0.13 @ gary leach" into the page name, for example "multimedia"...
  • Music (now playing) bar or something that shows what song is playing in the media player or maybe place it instead of "gdesk v0.13 @ gary leach")
  • Not sure if you already do so internally, if not you could consider separating design and standard mode (perhaps using and external app to design a gdd?) to reduce memory footprint
  • In design mode be able to specify icon's position exactly by number (pixels)
  • Be able to create a page whith duplicated content from existing (active) page to make constructing pages with simmilar layout easier.
  • Order of links in Page Menu should be the same of the Jog Order, i.e. user settable (instead of depending on the add order, almost impossible to sort once page has been set up)
  • Possibility to open one folder like Games or other Folder from the main menu directly in Gdesk
  • [M600i] Option to keep the Softkeys (in the bottom of the screen)
  • [M600] A shortcut to the drop down menu in top left of screen would be fantastic. This menu offers "lock", "volume", "new"->"sms/call/...", "Connections" etc.. (default drop down menu is too small).A function to call the Status Bar Menu (top left downarrow on P1i/M600i). This has a lot of functionality built in (such as New call, new SMS, new email, silent mode etc.) but is currently inaccessible without the stylus. An item (perhaps under Add Other) that simply calls this function and so can be accessed by a key or screen press would instantly add a lot of features in one go.
  • In design mode be able to copy icon to another page, or in the same page, duplicating the item.
  • Option for changing the name of a button, so when I go to page 1 instead of displayin "Link to page 1" it would display the name I specify for that link.
  • Faster jog dial selection movement.
  • Request to have a last undo functionality in design mode.
  • In "Replace Main Mode": when "Back" Hardware Button is pressed, then "Run Main", this is easer to lock the phone with using Hardware Buttons.
  • In "Run" menu, pressing the specific character from the phone keypad allows to scroll to those applications with name started with that character.
  • Functionality for adding a Common Task (such as new task, new appointment etc.) This is possible as a replacement for icons on the Main Screen so I assume it is programmatically available in UIQ3
  • On Page Menu - ignore page links in the list. These are usually used for navigation and it seems pointless to clutter up a shortcut menu with them
  • Smaler grid for more accuracy. But how small is small enough? ;) You can position the icon roughly using grid and then fine tune it using keys // stollo 1/2 the size as a option is small enough! Which key in FO to finetune icons?
  • "confirm" button for the "refrech icon". Having a design, without having all the icons in it, "refrech icons" making the design bad...
  • Make a "choose sequence" for icons. In the "Dsma style Windows Vista Ultimate theme", page 2, i want to have a ithem under the "link to page 1" icon. I guess the sequence now is "last item on top"? Just assign a fully transparent icon to the item you want to hide. There is no need to hide an icon under another one since we have the possibility to use transparent pngs // stollo.
    I want to "hide" the clock under a semi transp. icon. The clock is always on top, unable to get the clock behind the icon.
  • Is it possible to have an icon for engaging the FLIGHT MODE with one touch and not have to answer all these SE questions?
    Is it possible to have an icon for putting the phone back to PHONE MODE ?
    Is it possible to have a button say (ALT) to be such to immediately return us to the main page of gdesk and not the so human unfriendly side button ? (or at least have the option to select such a button ?)
    Maybe, i do not know if others agree, a function that would allow the keyboard to function as to control main phone functions as it used to be on the p800/p910, also using the normal 1234567890 buttons to function it. So the finger would move slightly and many functions could be accomplished.

    • Weather report plugin (if possible, accuweather)
    • Timer plugin (showing the remaining time)
    • Run mShell scripts directlyThis seems a very significant addition to GDesk, since it would basically result in a totally customizable desktop with endless posibilities. A lot of the feature request on this page could be implemented by the user community without the need for C++ / Symbian skills! http://www.m-shell.net/Forum/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=8 - the MShell forum pertaining to this topic; still waiting for a response...
    • Create Alarm plug-in (if possible, with an option to override the phone muted volume, i.e. ring even if in mute mode)
    • By all means Gary you are spoiling us, but... :) With these designs: http://www.ipmart-forum.com/showpost.php?p=1531955&postcount=293 I guess a nice plugin with notes that can be displayed on the free space of the desktop would be really cool. Something like the StickIt app... Pleaaase....
    • Another Notes plug-in request......something similar to 'the Pad' for UIQ 2 Plugin or Shortcut option to autorun Shortcut when GDesk is started
    • Something like "Full Screen Caller" to be added - just a thought that may be like in Agn View shows calender data, it will show saved details (eg Company, Group, Job Title etc) of the contact calling in & called out. As of now, no software of such type exists for UIQ 3, but if done through GDesk, it will be really very very helpfull


    TaskMan
    • Ability to change icon (and mask, of course)
    • "Close all" (but gdesk) to clear memory


    Clock
    • Add antialiased clock hand
    • Add style analog + date, together You can use the plugin twice...
    • Option for a larger anologue clock
    • Option for a larger digital clock (similar in size to the iPhone keypad locked clock)
    • Option to add icon of choice as analogue clock background
    • Display set alarm time
    • Option for displaying other times. For example my country's time and London time. Shizumaru Use option "Hours offset";-)
    • Add a clickable screensaver to the clock? something like ClockSS. Could serve as a lock till you find a way to do it directly
    • Option to display "day" of the week e.g. Monday, Tuesday, Wed ....


    AgnView
    • After selecting AgnView by pressing the jogdial or tapping: Switch the focustoAgnView and allow to move to the entries of the list by using the jogdial. Pressing jogdial again opens appropriate application (calendar, task, ...)
    • Switch of backgroundcolour when week changes
    • Expand/collapse entries in AgnView
    • Ability to view/edit individual entries in AgnView without launching default calendar
    • Have AgnView display events upto a user-defined date
    • Different colours for different AgnView entries
    • Show ToDo priority in AgnView
    • Add offset from today in AgnView
    • Filter todo by task groups as defined in tasks application.
    • I would like to suggest to have the "Days to" countdown change on 0:00 of every day (like dates), instead having them related to the time of the appointment, like it is currently. Now it sometimes counts down in the middle of the day and that just doesn't seem right.
    • Ability to change the level of transparency (not just on/off) or to set a "mask"
    • Possibility to toggle Agenda selection/flick outline off.
    • Changing of the Agenda tap behaviour - limiting the linked App launch action only to tapping within the rectangle surrounding the Agenda entries as explained on My-Symbian forum
    • Tapping an appointment/task/entry opens the corresponding application (calendar, tasks, ...) directly showing the tapped entry, e.g. the tapped appointment (as the today screen of the m600i already does if an entry is selected)
    • Adding option to format date display (e.g. display onlymonth and day, without the year in order to save width for this column). Probably add the possibility to assemble the date column by offering variables for each part of the date (%d for day, %D for day of week, %m for month, %yy for year like 07, %yyyy for year like 2007 etc.)
    • Option to get agenda entries from other agenda apps (like Aqua calender and other) than the default calender
    • Filter events by folders
    • If I have an appointment between 10 and 11 I'd like the event to be removed from the Agn View after 11 and not be visible the whole day.
      • THIS IS A FEATURE THAT WOULD MAKE GDESK A PERFECT APPLICATION - PLEASE GARY IMPLEMENT THIS AND MAKE GDESK AN ULTIMATE APP FOR UIQ3!!!
    • Sometimes a later event is in the top of the list before events soon to come.
    • When an event is taking place between 10 and 11 let the event be marked during that time.
    • 2007-11-11: Most import is to see longer entries on 2 or more lines. Additionally, the place of meetings should be on the last line. It could also be useful to scroll through all items and see additional information when an item is selected.
    • Facility to assign colour to text and background. Standard black on white is fine, except at min I'd like to invert colours. Transparent is difficult to read.
    • Add option to turn off time for all day events, or make columns toggable for specific types of entries
    • A swipe of AGNVIEW comes up with a button which then needs to be pressed before the refresh operation will take place. The refresh button is the only option presented. This seems a bit unnessary. Why doesn't the stroke suimply refresh the AGNVIEW rather than create an extra step. I am copying this to the feature request page as well.


    InfoView



    Shortcuts
    • [V0.22] Option to disable words "Phone/SMS [contact]". Especially in menu option names are cut off because of that.
    • [V0.22] Pictures from contact database ?
    • change signatures. Or it is yet better to add optional signatures to them.
    • Shortcuts to favourite folders in menu (like "quick folders" in LCG X-Plore)
    • New SMS shortcut - this feature isn't implemented yet as stated in version 0.20. There's no link to create a new sms. The added sms shortcut was a link to create a new sms to a specified contact. Why not just use the shortcut from a standard dropdown menu on the statusbar? There you have New -> SMS. Why duplicate the already existing functionality? // stollo Not my suggestion but the menu "new SMS" is no touchable with fingers and therefore unusable.If the menu woul open with scoll press I'd agree but this way I'D like the shortcut as well.
    • Could we please have a shortcut to creating a new TODO item?
    • On Shortcut - instead of being a new shortcut for each action, can a press on the shortcut bring up a menu of what you want to do with that contact


      User interface requests

      • Phone main screen returning to Gdesk: I Thought this was a bug but realised it's actually been added as a feature! I'm not fond of it. Would it be possible to make the 5 second delay configurable, i.e. x number of seconds where x can be 0? Or at least make the delay an "inactivity delay" rather than a straight seconds count. At the moment I can be scrolling around the main screen or looking for something in the More menu and suddenly I'm thrown back to Gdesk.
      • Option to have Gdesk also replace the symbian taskbar
      • Optional Animated loadup, (Icons fly into place on load) I don't know about others, but I'd prefer Gary to concentrate development on functionality rather than ultra-fancy UI. We'll get an iPhone if we want to impress and GDesk if we want something that's usable. //golightlygl
      • flash swf support AFAIK Not possible till Adobe releases Flash Player for UIQ3 // stollo
      • Option to change GUI background/Menu colours etc using colour selector rather than Icons.
      • Add animations as background (gif files)
      • Colour picker numeric entry
      • Scheduled design changes (e.g. work/home designs)
      • Arbitrary icons (i.e. icons without an app) There's a tip on how to do this in the tips and tricls section. Creat a link to a page, delte the linked to page and the link remains with no function. Assign an icon of choise and there's your graphic! //golightlygl
      • Remove text outlines option
      • Remove or change (make smaller) the icon outlines when selected in non-design mode (when using small icons the outline is too big!)
      • Transparent background (to see app behind GDesk)
      • Import current phone theme into GDesk
      • "Dragable icon" option (will allow us to drag neccessary icons in Use mode & to block unwanted icons in Design mode). note: i would really prefer GDesk to remain generally simple. Icons flying into place and animated startup will slow the phone down to a crawl, as the first versions of the firmware where we could not disable the menu effects showed! Of course these effects should be selectable, but all effort in this area will remain mostly unused except for showing of the phone from time to time. Implementing these features will probably also lead to overhead making the responsiveness of the phone slower. // My original idea is only to block design-time accident drags (as soon as menu is click-accessed).
      • Icons move to highlight spot rather than highlight moving around icons.
      • Setting for cross page icons, when a icon/shortcut is tagged for crosspage it remains the same on every page at it exact location.
      • Option to change the icon for the left softkey (now it isthe standard icon of the app that's assigned to the key)
      • Option to add different backgrounds per page.
      • virtual dial pad? i've seen this app UCall allready exists ucall would it be difficult to make a gdesk version plugin????
      GDesk Feature Requests - GDesk
      Note (from naytsyrhc): if this app UCall exists, why don't you put an icon on your desktop and assign it to that app? You may even assign a key shortcut and mak it cross-page to have easy access to the virtual dial pad. I don't see the necessity for that to become a plugin to GDesk. IMHO GDesk is a Destop Application (i.e. an alternative/Replacement for the Standard-      Standby/Today-Screen), nothing more.
      • Comment from P1i user: UCall is slow in response and is missing eg. "+ "sign. Also the number buttons do not use the full size of the screen and as seen from the picture, bottom most buttons are really small. GDesk was actually my hope to find dial pad option at first place. I'd really appriciate if that functionality would be available.
      • Option for having the timer count down and stopwatch visibles, I pretty much like my design but have to switch to main UIQ window when using it. Shizumaru
      • Option for adding simple shapes as lines, squares and circules, color them or set transparency and change size of them. This way I could sorround some icons used as "main icons". Shizumaru
      • Add another layer between background and icons when one could create simple graphic elements. Alpha blended shapes for making background image suitable for placing icons would be nice for start.
      • Add a Settings... line to the menu, opening a settings window that show the current settings of whatever I have tapped on and allows me to change them conveniently in one place. Menu-driven changes are very cumbersome, especially when changing several things at once. Also, it would unclutter the menu when using it instead of all the settings in there at the moment.

        • Allow AgnView plugin to launch AquaCalendar (or arbitrary other application) in place of the default Calendar app.
        • AgnView width seperate from font height
        • Be able to specify which icon will be selected first when scrolling the jog. Maybe for each icon set whichf icon is next in order. This way one could easily specify the scrolling order of shortcuts. In reference to the previous request (order/priority), a priority of 0 should make an appnot selectable via the jog dial: useful expecially in FC mode, where you can assign apps to the joypad and select not assigned apps faster using the jog dial

        I wish you could simply lock/prevent the homescreen from displaying nothing when the mobile is tilted to landscape mode. You know, so it stays in portrait mode, same as the default homescreen. Right now when i tilt the mobile it displays this empty picture. I wish i couldchange that.
